Dynamic control of motor spindles

  • Precise speed acquisition for stable processes in milling, turning and grinding
  • Contactless and bearingless measuring principle for maintenance-free, wear-free signals even under high loads
  • High signal quality up to 100,000 rpm for dynamic and robust control in high-speed spindles
  • Signal optimization and parameterization in the installed state using the mobile service device SensorDEVICE M
  • Compact design, variable cable outlets and flexible measuring scales for efficient integration into various spindle designs

High-speed spindles: precise speed and position acquisition under extreme conditions

In high-speed spindles, extreme rotational speeds, high temperatures and extremely confined installation spaces converge. At the same time, requirements for precision, surface quality and process reliability are continuously increasing. Under these conditions, reliable and highly accurate speed and position acquisition is critical to the performance of the entire machine.

High measurement accuracy and compact design make our MiniCODER the world's most widely used bearingless rotary encoders in high-speed spindles of machine tools. Over 500,000 units are deployed in machines for high-speed cutting, among other applications.

Stable control in high-speed spindles

In high-speed spindles, precise speed acquisition is essential, as even minor deviations affect process stability and machining quality in milling, turning or grinding. The extreme rotational speeds generate considerable thermal and mechanical loads, under which many sensor systems quickly reach their limits. At the same time, the measurement must remain permanently reliable in order to ensure safe and dynamic control.

MiniCODER enable precise and resilient speed acquisition even at high dynamics. Thanks to their robust measuring principle, they deliver stable signals that permanently support spindle control and thus improve process reliability.

Commissioning and signal optimization in the installed state

During assembly and service operations, it is often difficult to reliably assess sensor systems in the installed state. Restricted access, varying spindle environments and mechanical tolerances can affect signal quality and reduce subsequent positioning accuracy.

This is where the mobile service device SensorDEVICE M provides support. During commissioning, the system enables targeted signal optimization, parameterization and precise testing of the connected sensor system. During service operations, the operating condition data stored in the MiniCODER during runtime can also be evaluated.

Standard or customized – flexible in design and assembly

For design engineers, the challenge is to integrate encoder systems into the spindle design in such a way that they function reliably despite limited installation space, high thermal loads and mechanical requirements. Assembly technicians, in turn, must precisely align and securely mount the components in confined and hard-to-access areas.

The compact design of the MiniCODER as well as various cable outlet directions facilitate integration into different spindle concepts and create assembly-friendly clearances. In addition, the flexible design of the measuring gear enables adaptation to variable diameters and installation situations. This allows the encoder system and measuring scale to be efficiently integrated into the available installation space both during design and during service operations.
